Bargaining
Responsibilities: Develop bargaining priorities, review member surveys, negotiate contract language, analyze district proposals, communicate bargaining updates.
Focus: Collective bargaining and contract improvements
Time Commitment: Weekly during bargaining season (3–6 hours); monthly otherwise
Recommended Size: 7–15 members
Grievance
Responsibilities: Investigate contract violations, assist members with grievances, meet with administrators, monitor contract compliance, recommend policy improvements.
Focus: Contract enforcement and member protection
Time Commitment: 2–5 hours monthly; more as cases arise
Recommended Size: 3–6 trained members
Organizing
Responsibilities: Recruit members, increase member engagement, identify worksite leaders, coordinate campaigns, support actions during bargaining, welcome new employees.
Focus: Member power and leadership development
Time Commitment: 2–4 hours monthly; more during campaigns
Recommended Size: 6–12 members
Communications
Responsibilities: Manage newsletters, website, social media, email communications, branding, photography, storytelling, and member messaging.
Focus: Timely communication and member engagement
Time Commitment: 3–5 hours monthly
Recommended Size: 4–8 members
Special Education
Responsibilities: Monitor special education working conditions, review caseload issues, collaborate with bargaining team, recommend contract language, advocate for students and educators.
Focus: Special education supports and compliance
Time Commitment: Monthly (2 hours) plus issue-specific meetings
Recommended Size: 5–8 members representing multiple programs
Equity & Human Rights
Responsibilities: Promote equitable practices, review policies through an equity lens, provide professional learning recommendations, respond to discrimination concerns, and celebrate diversity.
Focus: Equity, inclusion, civil rights, and belonging
Time Commitment: Monthly (2 hours) with occasional event planning
Recommended Size: 5–9 members
Scholarship & Recognition
Responsibilities: Administer scholarships, recognize outstanding educators, coordinate retirement and service awards, celebrate member achievements.
Focus: Member recognition and community support
Time Commitment: 1–3 hours monthly; more during scholarship season
Recommended Size: 4–7 members; the Secretary is the chair of this committee
Political Action Committee (PAC)
Responsibilities: Interview candidates, recommend endorsements, coordinate campaign activities, educate members on legislation, promote voter registration and advocacy.
Focus: Political advocacy and public education
Time Commitment: Monthly (2 hours); additional time during election season
Recommended Size: 5–10 members
Budget
Responsibilities: Develop the Association's annual budget for the next fiscal year, make recommendations to the Executive Board on any items of proposed expenditures, review proposals, continuous review of the fiscal status of the Association
Focus: Budget management and fiscal accountability
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours, one meeting quarterly
Recommended Size: 3-8 members; the Treasurer is the chair of this committee
Member Engagement & Wellness (New)
Responsibilities: Welcome new members, coordinate social events, organize appreciation activities, support educator wellness, encourage volunteerism and future leaders.
Focus: Building a strong, connected union culture
Time Commitment: 2–3 hours monthly
Recommended Size: 5–8 members
